Syrian winner of bronze medal at 2022 International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad says he is proud to represent his country on international podiums

Two Syrian students, who are members of the Syrian Scientific Olympiad, won two bronze medals at the 2022 International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad, which concluded last Sunday in Uzbekistan. The two students are Salman Iyad Al-Darwish and Ahmad Ghassan Izz Eddin.

120 students from 16 countries around the world competed during the period between 9 and 15 May in the tests.

One of the winners, Salman Iyad Al-Darwish, told SANA that his achievement has encouraged him to continue his efforts to achieve more international gains that enhance Syria’s position among other countries.

The ambitious student said that the competition in the International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad was hard, with students participating for the second or third time in the competition.

“My aspiration to be crowned and represent my country at international podiums has greatly motivated me to work hard to win an advanced position,” he said.

He pointed out that this was his first international participation, hailing the support provided to members of the Scientific Olympiad team and the continuous training for them with the aim of enriching their skills and knowledge.

The International Mandeleev Olympiad has been held annually in Moscow for 56 years, and this year it was held in Uzbekistan, and it is one of the most important international competitions.
