On August 4th, Syrian weightlifter Maan Asaad won the bronze medal in the weightlifting competition over 109 kg at the Olympic Games held in the Japanese capital, Tokyo.
The weightlifter Asaad won the bronze after he scored a total of 424 kg, the silver medal went to the Iranian player Ali Dawwi with a total of 441 kg, and the Georgian Lasha Talakhadze won the gold with a total of 488 kg.
Asaad participated in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in the over 105 kg weight category and finished 15th with a total of 400 kg.
During his sporting career that spanned more than 10 years, Asaad won the Republic Championship in various categories and won first place in the first international participation at the age of 14 in the Asian Junior Championships that took place in Uzbekistan in 2009, and the Asian Championship in Kyrgyzstan in 2013, and won the gold of the World Challenge Cup in Switzerland in 2019, and ranked fifth in the world in Thailand 2019.
