Syrian weightlifter Maan Asaad, who won a bronze medal in Tokyo Olympics, returned from Japan on Saturday and received a hero’s welcome at Jdeidet Yabous border crossing point between Syria and Lebanon.
On July 4th, Asaad won the men’s 109kg weightlifting bronze medal at the Olympic Games in Tokyo after llifting 424 kg.
Asaad’s family, relatives and fellow sportsmen welcomed him with flowers. His friends carried him on shoulders in appreciation for the great achievement he made in such an important international sport event.
“I won the bronze medal after years of preparations. I will not stop at this point. I will continue training and will do my best to make my family and my homeland proud of me, he told SANA reporter, hailing the great efforts exerted by his coach and medical team that helped him in surpassing the impacts of the injury he has suffered from
Abdul Mou’een Asaad, Father of the Syrian weightlifter, expressed his pride in his son’s achievement despite the weak capabilities and the difficult circumstances he faced during his injury period. He hoped that Maan will win gold in coming competitions.
Head of the General Sports Federation Firas Mualla also expressed pride in Asaad achievement, stressing that the federation will provide all support for the weightlifter Asaad so that he can achieve more gains in future international tournaments.
