Syrian-Venezuelan Political Relations Growing Stronger Day by Day: Venezuelan Ambassador

DAMASCUS, (ST)-The Syrian-Venezuelan friendship relations have been characterized by their depth, firmness and by their being based on respecting countries sovereignty as well as people’s right to self-determination. The two countries also have common visions and stances on different international issues and in the confrontation of hegemony attempts.

In a statement to SANA marking the 208th Independence Anniversary of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela , Jose Biomorgi, the Venezuelan Ambassador to Syria spoke about the deeply-rooted and ideological ties between the peoples of Syria and Venezuela and about the two countries’ struggle against a common enemy that prevents peoples from determining their future.

He affirmed his country’s firm support for the Syrian people and legitimate government since the beginning of the terrorist war on Syria, clarifying that Syria also has backed Venezuela and President Nicolas Maduro and his legitimate government.

According to Biomorgi, “the United States is an imperialist state which is about to vanish” and given its frustration and gradual loss of strength, it has begun to implement a package of unilateral coercive measures against some countries including China, Russia, Iran, Cuba as well as Syria and Venezuela with the aim of weakening them.

He pointed out that the countries which are under the US siege have started to draw up policies and setting up mechanisms for economic exchange among each others to confront these measures.

The Ambassador noted the agreements reached between the two countries during the visit of the Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza to Syria last April to enhance trade exchange, clarifying that the two sides are assessing cooperation mechanism to make further steps that serve the interest of the peoples in both countries.

On  means to consolidate cultural cooperation between Syria and Venezuela, the ambassador said that preparations are underway to open the Venezuelan Cultural Week in Damascus on July 21st during which focus will be put on the cultural heritage of Venezuela as a country receiving waves of migrations. He pointed out that some million people of Syrian origin live in Venezuela.

He added that Dar Al Assad for Culture and Arts in Damascus will host a photo exhibition, artistic performances and a cinema week in which films depicting Venezuela and its prestigious cineart will be screened.

Venezuela has been exposed to US interference in its internal affairs and to repeated bids to destabilize the country through tightening the economic and financial sanctions and through supporting right-wing parties in a desperate attempt by Washington to revive hegemony schemes against this oil-rich country and to overthrow the legitimate president.
