Syrian-Sudanese talks to implement joint projects in environmental protection and combating climate change

Ways of developing cooperation relationships and implementing joint projects, especially in the areas of environmental protection and combating climate change, drought and dust storms, were discussed today during the meeting of the Minister of Local Administration and Environment, Eng. Hussein Makhlouf, and Minister of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Sudan, Dr. Abubaker Omar Al-Bishri and his accompanying delegation.

Minister Makhlouf stressed the importance of establishing cooperation relations between the Arab countries affected by climate change, pointing to ACSAD’s role in promoting such cooperation and establishing joint projects.

He clarified that Syria is working to combat desertification by planting hundreds of thousands of hectares each year according to a scheduled plan.

For his part, Minister Al-Bishri talked about Sudan’s food security initiative and the efforts of the Sudanese Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in sustainable development, and expressed the hope that cooperation between the two sides would be strengthened.

Director-General of the Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands, Dr. Nasr Al-Din Al-Obeid, thanked the Syrian Government for supporting ACSAD’s role in Syria, stressing the important role played by the Ministry of Local Administration and Environment, especially in relation to climate change in recent years and the importance of conducting joint research to develop drought-resistant plant species.
