Syrian students in Cuba took part in ELAM’s cultural week

Syrian students in Cuba have shown several photos of Syria plus traditional clothes and booklets about the history and the civilization of the homeland in the cultural week organized by the Latin American School for Medical Sciences (ELAM).

The cultural week included a stage show performed by Syrian, Yemeni and Palestinian students about the Syrian folklore and a video showing the Syrian people’s steadfastness during the global war being waged on the country, according to the official news agency (SANA).

The agency added that the Syrian students alongside Arab and foreign students carried the Syrian flag and the pictures of President Bashar al-Assad, saluting the Syrian Arab army, which is combating terrorism.

It quoted ELAM’s rector Dr. Antonio López Gutiérrez as saying that there must be coordination between the international effort and the Syrian government to combat terrorism.

“The Syrian army and government are fighting the terrorism that poses threat to the whole world,” the rector added, expressing his pleasure for the participation of the Syrian students in the activity to explain what is going on in their homeland.

On his part, Head of the Syrian Diplomatic Mission in Cuba Louay al-Oji said that Syria has stood by the Arab and world liberation movements that have struggled to achieve independence since 1946 until now.

His remark was made during the closing ceremony of the cultural week.

ELAM was founded in 1999 by the Cuban Leader Fidel Castro to offer education to Latin American students free of charge. Now, thousands of Cuban, Arab and foreign students are studying in this School.
