Syrian Students, Community in Russia Mark Martyrs’ Day

The Branch of the Syrian Students National Union (SSNU) in Russia and Commonwealth of Independent States held Sunday a solidarity activity near the tomb of Unknown Soldier at Kremlin Palace in Moscow in order to mark Martyrs’ Day.

The participating Syrian students expressed their pride at sacrifices that have been offered by martyrs since the Ottoman occupation. They laid flowers on the tomb and praised the strong friendship between Syrian and the Russian peoples.

Another activity was held by Syrian community in Ukraine in cooperation with Syrian embassy there to celebrate Martyr’s Day, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

The agency quoted speakers in the activity as saying that blood of martyrs protects homeland’s sovereignty and leads to victory.

On May 6, 1916, Jamal Pasha publicly executed twenty-one Arab intellectuals and politicians simultaneously in Damascus and Beirut for alleged anti-Ottoman activities. The date, May 6, is commemorated annually in both countries as Martyrs’ Day.

Since 2011, a foreign-backed terror war has been waged against Syria targeting its army, people, civilization and infrastructures in accordance with US-Zionist plot that aims to fragment the region and to have hegemony over its wealth.
