Syrian Steadfast Women Show Wonderful Handmade Works in Bazaar in Damascus
On the occasion of the Christmas and New Year, the ‘Steadfast Women’ bazaar was opened Friday in the ‘Dama Rose’ Hotel in Damascus by Minister of Tourism Besher Yazigy and Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Rema Qadri in cooperation with ‘Martyr’s Mother’ Group.
The three-day bazaar contains handmade works such as : accessories, crochet, wool clothes, embroideries, paintings and Easter candles. The proceeds from the activity will go to support martyrs’ families, especially their children who will light up the Christmas tree in the same hotel [Dama Rose] next Sunday.
Besher Yazigy told reporter that the bazaar encourages handmade works and it comes within a campaign to be launched next year by ministry of tourism in order to encourage people all over the world to buy gifts from Syria, especial handmade ones.
While Rema Qadri said that the ministry of social affairs supports handmade craft in field of training and it will later work on marketing handmade works and creating opportunities to fund them .
“The participants in the bazaar are mothers and wives of martyrs and breadwinners, who want to prove that they are able to gain money from their works and to support national economy,” the minister added.
On her part, Head of the ‘Martyr’s Mother’ Group MP Jansit Qazan underscored the need to revive handmade craft as most women support their families through it.
Several participants in the bazaar said that the activity help them communicate with people to market their products in order to gain money for supporting their families.
“Syrian woman is strong and she insists on depending on herself despite difficult circumstances the country is going through,” the participants affirmed.
From November 25th till December 10, Martyr Trust in cooperation with Syriatel held three bazaars in Damascus with the participation of mothers, wives and daughters of martyrs from all provinces in Syria.
Food products were exposed in the bazaars which witnessed large turnout.
A lot of activities have been held over the past five years to support martyrs’ families in Syria.
