Syrian-South African Cooperation in Oil, Gas Sectors

DAMASCUS, (ST)-Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources Suleiman al-Abbas on Monday discussed with Ambassador of South Africa Shon Benfeldet methods of cooperation in oil and gas fields. The two sides focused on oil and gas refining as well as the investment in mineral resources.

 Investment in the areas of oil and gas drilling and phosphate manufacturing and related industries, in addition to the possibility of South Africa’s participation in carrying out refineries projects in Syria were also discussed during the meeting.

Al-Abbas welcomed the South African companies which are willing to carry out investments in the Syrian oil sector, stressing that companies of the friendly countries will have the priority in investment opportunities.

On his part, Benfeldet expressed willingness to be briefed on the investment opportunities in oil and gas fields in Syria and stressed keenness to create new cooperation prospects that serve the interests of the two countries.
