Syrian-Serbian talks to strengthen cooperation between the two countries

On August 20th, the Chargé d’Affairs of the Syrian Embassy in Belgrade, Minister Plenipotentiary  Dr. Ammar Awad, discussed with Serbian Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Nemanja Starovic the friendly relations between the two countries and ways to enhance them in various fields. 

During the meeting, Dr. Awad gave a brief presentation of the latest developments, especially the continuous negative effects of the unilateral coercive measures imposed by the United States and the European Union on Syria

Dr. Awad noted the importance of the support provided by friendly countries in mitigating the effects of these illegal measures

Dr. Awad expressed his thanks and appreciation to Serbia for its supportive stances for Syria in its war against terrorism. 

Dr. Awad handed a letter of invitation to Starovic from Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Dr. Faisal Miqdad to his Serbian counterpart Nikola Silakovic to visit Damascus in light of strengthening relations in all fields between the two friendly countries. 

For his part, Starovic affirmed the depth of the historical friendship relations between his country and Syria in various fields, stressing Serbia’s determination to strengthen these relations and to continue its support for the sovereignty and independence of Syria. 

Starovic thanked the Syrian leadership for its support for Serbia’s sovereignty in international forums, praising the Syrian people’s courage, steadfastness and struggle in the face of terrorism. 

Starovic expressed his thanks and appreciation for the invitation extended to Foreign Minister Silakovic, and hoped to accept it after the formation of the new Serbian government in the next few weeks, stressing that the visit would contribute to strengthening and developing economic and trade relations. 

Starovic also expressed Belgrade’s interest in exchanging visits at a high level between the two countries. 

The meeting was attended by Ambassador Aleksandar Jankovic, Director of the Middle East and North Africa Department at the Serbian Foreign Ministry, and from the Syrian Embassy, ​​Minister Counselor Ameed Hamdan.
