Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Marwan Al-Halabi discussed with the Saudi Ambassador to Damascus Faisal Al-Majfal prospects for cooperation between Syria and Saudi Arabia in the field of higher education and scientific research.
During the meeting, held today at the Ministry’s headquarters, the challenges facing the higher education sector were discussed, as well as means of cooperation in the field of university twinning, self-support programs for universities, attracting outstanding students in specific disciplines, adopting distinguished scientific studies and research, and coordinating, cooperating, and consulting on increasing the accreditation of Syrian universities.
Dr. Al-Halabi emphasized the need to strengthen investment system in higher education within Syrian universities, link scientific research and master’s and doctoral studies to the needs of Syrian society, and benefit from the expertise of Saudi universities in increasing accreditation, quality, and databases. He also emphasized the possibility of reopening the Saudi Cultural Attaché Office to support academic activities.
The Saudi ambassador pointed to the possibility of activating previous agreements, creating cooperation and concluding new agreements that serve current trends and needs, activating exchange student and professors, benefiting from the Saudi experience, exchanging expertise and forming a joint Syrian-Saudi committee to enhance cooperation in the field of higher education.
