Syrian-Russian talks to enhance cooperation in the scientific and health fields

Damascus (ST): The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Bassam Ibrahim, discussed with the Russian Minister of Higher Education Natalia Pecherova, the Russian Deputy Minister of Health, Dr. Andrei Plotinsky and the accompanying delegation, ways to enhance relations of joint cooperation in the scientific and health fields.

During the meeting, which took place at the ministry, Minister Ibrahim stressed the importance of Syrian-Russian relations, which are witnessing great developments and important leaps at all levels, especially in the field of science and health.

He referred to the desire of the two countries and peoples to strengthen these historical relations.

Minister Ibrahim drew attention to the necessity of activating the cooperation agreement signed between the Russian Ministry of Higher Education and the ministry in line with scientific development, supporting the Russian Language Department at Damascus University, exchanging students and professors, holding training and qualification courses to build capacity and raise the scientific competence of teaching staff, indicating the importance of grants offered to Syrian students, whose number reached this year to 750 grants and medical and engineering majors.

In turn, the Russian Minister of Education’s assistant confirmed that Syria was and still is one of the most important partners and allies of Russia in the region, pointing to the importance of cooperation between Syria and Russia, especially with regard to graduate students and teaching the Russian language in Syrian universities, and the possibility of signing cooperation agreements that include the exchange of students, professors and joint experiences, hoping that they are implemented on the ground to serve the interest of the two peoples.
