Syrian-Russian talks to enhance cooperation in the fields of education and scientific research

Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Bassam Ibrahim discussed with Russian Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education Pyotr Kucherenko in Moscow today ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in the fields of education and scientific research. 

During the meeting, Kucherenko stressed that Syria is not only a strategic partner for Russia in all economic, political, military and educational fields, but is a great friend of it.

Kucherenko stressed Russia’s readiness to increase university cooperation with Syria in all fields, pointing out that it is expected that 68 joint cooperation documents will be signed in the near future between Russian educational institutions and Syrian universities.

Kucherenko welcomed the holding of the first Russian-Syrian conference in Moscow tomorrow under the title Ibn Sina Road, which will be attended by many specialized medical personnel, and the details of which will be transmitted by Damascus University via video on the the Faculty of Medicine. 

For his part, Dr. Ibrahim stressed that Russia has provided and advanced to Syria, especially in the stage of the terrorist war, a lot of support, especially in the military, economic and industrial fields

Dr. Ibrahim noted the scientific research cooperation between the Syrian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education, pointing out the importance of modernizing, developing and renewing the cooperative program for scientific research

Dr. Ibrahim expressed hope for an increase in the number of annual scholarships offered by Russia to Syrian students, noting that the most important thing to follow in the joint program are the first outstanding Syrian graduates to pursue master’s and doctoral studies in Russian universities, specifically within the qualitative medical and engineering specializations in the fields of nanotechnology
