DAMASCUS, (ST)- The Syrian-Russian relations have reached the highest degree of solidarity “as to end an unprecedented war waged by the United States which has announced itself a dominant state over the entire world”, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faysal al-Mikdad has underscored.
During “Al-Baath Dialogue Forum” which was held today to discuss the Russian presence in Syria, al-Mikdad reviewed the strategic relations between the two countries and the role played in the past by the Soviet Union in backing world liberation movements and in supporting Syria as a leading front against imperialism and colonialism.
The deputy minister clarified that “what pushed Russia to enter Syria after an official request by the Syrian state was its feeling that terrorism and bloodshed taking place in Syria won’t only expand to reach the Russian territories, but this terrorism will become a global phenomenon.”
According to al-Mikdad, any Russian move in Syria is being made in coordination with the Syrian leadership within the course of respecting the principles of international law and the UN Charter.
“The Russian leadership is keen on the Syrian sovereignty, in addition to the fact that President Bashar Al-Assad won’t concede this sovereignty,” stressed al-Mikdad.
He went on to say that President Al-Assad’s last year’s visit to Russia was a strategic turning point in the Syrian-Russian relations as it opened the way for the ongoing great achievements on ground.
“The Russian support for Syria against terrorism has put an end to foreign intervention in Syria’s internal affairs,” said al-Mikdad, noting that the Russian federation has used the veto five times in support for Syria,.
Concerning the American policies, al-Mikdad said anyone who talks about values in the foreign policies of the US successive administrations commits a big mistake, pointing out that the latest American administration’s policy was not far from the vicious international policies of the neoconservatives or the colonialists in Britain and France.
