Syrian-Russian Friendship Resulted in Alliance against Terrorism: Sabbagh

DAMASCUS, (ST)-The Syrian-Russian friendship relations are deeply-rooted and they have witnessed great development at all levels, Speaker of the People’s Assembly (PA) Hammoudah al-Sabbagh said on Wednesday.

During his meeting with a Russian parliamentary delegation led by Dmitry Sablin, Member of the state Douma, Sabbagh said this friendship have resulted over the past years in an alliance to fight and defeat terrorism.

The PA Speaker urged deepening ties between the legislative institutions in both Syria and Russia and intensifying mutual parliamentary visits that serve further development  of bilateral ties.

On his part, Sablin appreciated the continuous meetings and visits between the technical delegations of the two countries and hailed keenness of the two sides on boosting the economic, social and humanitarian ties.

He pointed out that during the delegation’s visit, a cooperation agreement will be signed between the Syrian province of Tartous and the Russian province of Sivastopol to enahnce trade excahnge.

In a statement to journalists following the meeting, Sablin said “during our visit to Syria, we felt notable improvement of the situation in the country, mainly the victory of the Syrian Arab army and its allies on most terrorist groups in the country.”

“I am proud that may country is in the first line of the countries which are supporting Syria in fighting international terrorism,” Sablin added.

He noted achievments made at the level of the Syrian-Russian Parliamentary Friendship Society, stressing that the two sides will continue cooperating to make more achievments for the good of the peoples of the two countries.
