Syrian, Russian Electricity Cooperation

Damascus, (ST) – Minister of Electricity Imad Khamis yesterday discussed with two delegations from the republics of the Russian Federation and Belarus ways of activating cooperation between the two sides in the field of electricity and the transfer of technology needed for the manufacture of electrical installations in Syria, cooperation and studying investment costs for the resettlement of these industries in Syria.

The Minister interviewed the reality of the electricity sector, pointing out that workers in the electricity sector have made every effort to rehabilitate what has been vandalized to maintain the infrastructure, the needs of the Syrian electrical system of status, generating sets, transformation stations, power transmission lines and other items in addition to the huge investments of more than 20 billion euros.

Eng. Khamis said “Syria is a fertile ground for investment and we have a great vision for cooperation with companies in this area” , pointing out that the ministry has worked on the preparation of the legislative structure of the investments in the electricity sector and opened its doors to investment and any offer will be studied and will be selected to the benefit of the two countries.

For his part, Alexander Radific, Director General of the  Minsk Factory of Electrical Techniques which owns the largest plant for the production of transformers in Europe and produces about 40. 000 converted per year, pointing out that his company is ready and willing to cooperate with the Syrian government for the production of these transformers in Syria, help them to develop the electricity sector and to provide the necessary expertise.

Mr. Radific said ” our products match European and Russian standards and we are ready to present these products to Syria,” pointing out that his company is responsible for its products and offer a 5-year’s guarantee and 30-year’s service life after installation.

One of the members of the Russian delegation clarified that cooperation between the two countries would include many areas and the most important is the resettlement of some industries and making a trial to establish a group of laboratories that deal with quality and test natural products to give it one hundred percent certification tests indicating that the aim of the cooperation is to establish industries and run the workers in Syria.
