Syrian presentation during the International Conference on Combating Sand and Dust Storms held in Tehran
With the participation of Syria, the International Conference on Combating Sand and Dust Storms continued its activities today in the Iranian capital, Tehran, and the Syrian delegation gave a presentation on these storms in Syria.
The delegations held several interactive sessions that dealt with the social and economic effects of sand and dust storms, and accelerated regional and international cooperation to combat, forecast and early warning of these storms.
In the fourth interactive session on “Strengthening Regional Cooperation,” Engineer Imad Al Marai, the National Coordinator of the Convention to Combat Desertification, gave a presentation entitled “Sand and dust storms in Syria,” in which he discussed their most important causes and negative consequences, the activities followed to reduce them, proposals at the national and regional levels to address them, and the difficulties.
On the sidelines of the conference, the Syrian delegation held a meeting with the Iraqi side, represented by the advisor to the Iraqi Minister of Environment, Dr. Nazeer Abboud, and his accompanying delegation, during which cross-border environmental problems were discussed.
The Syrian delegation participating in the conference included Moataz Dohji, Assistant Minister of Local Administration and Environment for Environmental Affairs, Imad Al-Marei, National Coordinator of the Convention to Combat Desertification, and Minister Plenipotentiary at the Syrian Embassy in Tehran, Dr. Muhammad Tawfiq Abu Galoun.
Yesterday, the International Conference on Combating Sand and Dust Storms kicked off in Tehran, with the participation of a Syrian delegation, representatives of 50 countries, 15 international institutions, 250 experts, university professors, and representatives of executive, research and educational institutions.
