Syrian people stronger than Western pressure

By holding the presidential elections successfully and insisting to complete fight against takfiri terrorism, Syrian people have proved that they are stronger than Western pressure and they are able to foil all conspiracies.

It is clear that the US and the Israeli regime have been embarrassed by Syria’s recent presidential election which resulted in President Bashar al-Assad’s landslide victory, because President al-Assad’s victory means the continuity of unabated resistance of Israeli occupation and colonialist project.

It also means that Syria will continue to be a key state in the region defending Syrian and Arab people’s causes of destiny. The June 3 presidential elections in Syria were a huge success for Syrian people on the path of democracy and political pluralism. The elections were the first pluralistic contest with more than one candidate on the ballot, thus are thought to usher in a new democratic phase in Syria’s history. The vote was an embarrassment to Israel and the United States and they wanted to hinder the elections by all possible means. The US and Israeli response to these elections was escalating aggression against Syrian people through increasing their support for the armed terrorist groups operating in Syria. Washington’s recent move to provide more aid to the Takfiri groups operating against Syria ignores the fact that Syria had widely supported and fair presidential elections. The US National Security Advisor Susan Rice said Washington was providing both lethal and non-lethal aid to foreign-backed takfiri terrorists fighting against Syria. The administration of US President Barack Obama has said it is working with Congress on rallying support for the gunmen in Syria. Washington has provided hundreds of millions of dollars in aid to the Takfiri terrorists. The White House is supporting the terrorist takfiri organizations that pose serious threats to Syria and other regions in the world. These threats are clearly manifested through the attacks recently launched by the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and al-Sham in Syria, Iraq and Jordan. Obama’s administration has failed to follow through on any of the promises it has made, especially with regards to its claims about supporting democracy and human rights.

Holding the presidential elections is proof of the sovereignty of the Syrian state and its ability to overcome all conspiracies. The Syrian people proved that they alone grant legitimacy and choose the president of Syria. The elections shocked Syria’s enemies and constituted a civilized response to the lies these enemies attempted to propagate. The Syrians’ patriotism and wide participation in the elections astounded the world, and what happened in Beirut, Amman, and in 43 Syrian embassies around the world surprised Syria’s enemies, as thousands of Syrians flocked to their country’s embassies, even in countries hostile to Syria.

The US and Western approach ignores the confrontation with terrorism in Syria as it is being continually justified as a reaction, and still finds financers and sponsors.

Western scepticism is part of a psychological warfare that is aimed at blackmail the Syrian people and government.

As for terrorism, the West is aghast at the prospect of hundreds of gunmen returning to their countries. The West is afraid of the return of hundreds of gunmen among tens of thousands whom it facilitated their access to Syria and provided with political, media and moral coverage. The West knows quite well that the Syrian state is fighting a multi-front war with this terrorism exported to it by more than 83 states.

There is an obvious contradiction in the Western scepticism about Syria’s ability to lead a successful democratic process as ample Western reports speak about the unprecedented achievements of the Syrian armed forces against terrorist groups which are reeling from battlefield defeats.

The US and its allies also tried to use the issue of chemical weapons to put more pressure on Syrian people and government. But it also failed because Syria has dismantled its chemical stockpile according to the conditions set for its joining the OPCW.

The reports blaming the Syrian government for the use of chlorine gas are part of campaign intended to be a smokescreen to cover up reports that have pinned responsibility for previous chemical attacks in Syria on the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s government which was involved in providing terrorists with chemicals.

The US, its Western allies and regional and Arab tools must know that Syrian people will always foil their conspiracies and protect Syria’s dignity and sovereignty.
