GENEVA (ST) _ The Syrian parliamentary delegation taking part in the 129th Inter-Parliamentary Union conference in Geneva, continued yesterday a series of meetings with a number of heads of parliaments and participating delegations in order to coordinate international stances, mobilize efforts to support a political solution in Syria and to prevent some countries from continuing its intervention in Syria’s internal affairs.
The delegation headed by Dr. Khalil Mashhadeya and membership of Ahmad Kuzbari , Samir Khatib , Elias Chahine and Maha Ojaili reviewed during a meeting with President of Inter-Parliamentary Union Abdul Wahed Radi the risks imposed on Syria ‘s institutions of “systematic sabotage and destruction ” at the hands of armed terrorist groups and the suffering of the Syrian people from the terrorism Takfiri mercenaries acts of killing and slaughtering citizens, “in addition to the Union’s role in supporting a political solution and provide humanitarian aid to the Syrian people.
The Syrian delegation also discussed with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres, the issue of displaced Syrians at home and abroad , who were forced by the armed terrorist groups to leave their homes and means of providing the necessary support to them , besides measures taken by the Syrian government to help displaced people outside Syria to return to their homeland .
The meetings included heads of the parliaments of Venezuela, Pakistan, Thai , Vice President of the National Council of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and heads of delegations of South Africa , Oman and Kuwait, during which stress was laid on the importance of coordinating positions in international arenas on issues of mutual interest and ways to develop parliamentary cooperation and activating the role of parliaments at the political level to promote international peace and security .
The 129th Inter – Parliamentary Union Conference concluded its work yesterday with a plenary session for the General Assembly and the Governing Council during which the final results , recommended by the permanent committees , the sub-committees and emergency item , were adopted .
