Syrian parliament questions Finance Minister over the plummeting of Syrian pound against dollar

People’s Assembly [Parliament] approved on Monday a number of draft laws related to the money exchange plan, and referred a number of them to concerned authorities .
 
During its second session of the 13th regular round of the second legitimate term, a number of MPs affirmed that the government should be transparent with citizens and explain to them the causes of the plummeting of the Syrian Pound exchange rate against US dollar and what it might do to solve this problem. 
 
The MPs called for reaching an emergency solution to meet the needs of the citizens and their requirements.
 
Finance Minister, Maamoun Hamdan, told the parliament that the reason behind the sharp depreciation in the exchange rate is not only economic, but also there are many other reasons including manipulation and rumors that have pushed people to buy  foreign currency, gold and the real estates.
 
He affirmed that the government has studied this issue and its repercussions on the citizens and that there wiil be a breakthrough soon.
 
The minister called on all citizens to cooperate with the government to curb smuggling that affects the national economy.
