DAMASCUS,(ST)_ The UN Secretary General Special Envoy Lakhdar Brahimi met yesterday with a delegation representing Syrian opposition nationalist parties at the Sheraton Hotel on the sidelines of preparations for the convening Geneva Conference 2 .
Secretary- General of the Solidarity Party Mohammad Abu Qasim, chairman of the National Democratic Alliance bloc said in a statement to reporters after the meeting that the bloc parties presented to Brahimi a unified vision to be debated at Geneva Conference 2 , stressing the need that the delegation to include broader spectrum of their parties so as to contribute to highlight all visions and ideas .
Secretary General of the National Youth party for Justice and Development Brewin Ibrahim said that the “Doha coalition ” , ” the Higher Kurdish Commission ” and ” the coordinating body ” only represent part of the internal opposition and the Syrian street is demanding ” expansion the circle of participants in the Geneva Conference 2 , and to include all oppositions and independent, religious and tribal figures ” so as to ensure ” non-failure of Geneva Conference . “
Ibrahim pointed out that talks with Brahimi touched upon the need for urgent solutions concerning the humanitarian aspects of the affected people in Syria.
For his part, Secretary General of the Syrian Democratic Party Ahmed Kosa stressed support for all efforts to convene the conference in order to launch the political process and bring all Syrian parties together to reach a political solution to the crisis in Syria.
Kosa stressed that ” the success of the conference lies in drying the sources of terrorism and the closure of the border to prevent the flow of insurgents who come from all parts of the world to implement foreign agendas in Syria.”
Secretary General of the Syrian National Youth Party Maher Merhej said that internal opposition has ” different points of view about the crisis in Syria and prospects for the solution , ” a matter which requires ” to have representatives from all spectrums of the opposition ” to have a solution satisfactory for all Syrians.
leader in the Syrian Democratic Party Firas Nadim said that the delegation stressed to Brahimi the need to lift the sanctions imposed on Syria to alleviate the suffering of the Syrian people, noting that the national opposition is working within the framework of launching an inter-Syrian dialogue in Geneva under the ceiling of the homeland and ” to alienate all who called for foreign intervention in Syria .
