Syrian MP Urges More Active Role by Local Media in Covering Legislative Authority’s Activities

Several Members of Parliament representing Aleppo province recently held an important meeting with Prime Minister Imad Khamis.

According to the Syrian MP Amira Stephano, the meeting dealt with the suffering and requirements of citizens in Aleppo, including the problems of Aleppo university students.

In a statement sent to Syriatimes e-newspaper, MP Stephano said that the MPs presented their viewpoints on these problems and stressed media’s role in covering the activities of the legislative authority.

She added that she underscored that local media outlets should put more focus on the role of the legislative authority in solving citizens’ problems.

Stephano told the premier that local media outlets focus on the executive authority and briefly talk about the legislative one despite the fact that the two authorities cooperate together for national interest at all levels.

“We expect a change in the media policy as regards dealing with the activities of the legislative authority after the meeting with the Prime Minister,” Dr. Stephano said, asserting the need to rehabilitate cadres working in civil defense and firefighting as to be more active in their tasks.
