Syrian MP: Terrorist groups use chemical attack card to spark off world public opinion against the Syrian state

Syrian Member of Parliament has affirmed that the use of the pretext of chemical attack against the Syrian state will never stop as long as it makes the world public opinion feel empathy with terrorist groups.

Speaking to Damascus-based al-Watan newspaper, Dr. Ahmad Meree said that whenever Syrian army achieves major advance, terrorist groups resort to the ‘false flag’ chemical attack as the fastest way to spark off world public opinion against the Syrian state.

He believes that Syria’s abide by the legal measures and its accession to the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) in 2013 makes accusations against the Syrian state empty.

“However, we can’t deny that there are dangerous attempts to manipulate the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons [OPCW] and to turn its role from investigation into accusatory,” the MP added.

He underlined that the rapid response to stop the use of this card [chemical attacks] should be through striking the terrorist groups and preventing them from possessing and using the chemical weapons.
