Syrian MP Rules out Turkish ground intervention in Syria

The Syrian Member of Parliament Omar Ossi has said Turkey’s shelling of the Kurdish ‘ Syria Democratic forces’ sites north of Aleppo is a ‘rehearsal’ for possible Turkish ground intervention in Syria.

But, he, ruled out the intervention because it necessitates NATO approval.

Ossi, who is Head of the Syrian Kurds National initiative, told the Damascus-based al-Watan newspaper that the Kurds’ expansion in Syria’s north areas does not aims to establish an ‘independent Syrian Kurdish entity’.

“The Kurds want self-rule within the unity of the Syrian territories,” he added, ruling out disunity between Arabs and Kurds in Syria over coordination between the Kurdish people’s Defense Units (YPG) and the Syrian Arab army.

“There will never be an Arab-Kurd sedition as the YPG and the SDF are composed of Arab, Kurds, Syriac and Kurdish Assyrian. These forces defend their areas and I think that they are coordinating with the Syrian army and the other forces defending Syria. ”

The MP made it clear that Turkey seeks to destroy the Kurdish self-rule in al-Qameshli, Ein Arab and Efrin areas and to defend the ISIS and al-Nusra Front in order to prevent their defeat at the hands of the Syrian Arab army.

“The movements of the YPG and the SDF are legitimate to defend the northern flank of Syria,” Ossi said, affirming that Kurds unanimously agree on the unity of the Syrian territories and the homeland’s  sovereignty.

Reconciliation process

Regarding the national reconciliation process, Ossi, who chairs the National Reconciliation Committee in the People’s Assembly [Parliament], said that the work of the committee increases when the Syrian Arab army’s strategic and tactical victories accelerate.

“There will be more results in the file of reconciliation in the coming days” the Kurdish MP concluded.
