DAMASCUS, Oct.9, (ST)- The Syrian- Jordanian Economic Forum, which is organized by the Jordan Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce under the auspices of the Ministry of Economy and Foreign Trade, continues its work for the 2nd day at the “Dama Rose” Hotel in Damascus with the participation of more than 90 Jordanian companies and businessmen.
Today, the participants will discuss , in the presence of the Ministers of Industry Ziad Sabbagh and the Minister of Agriculture Muhammad Hassan Qatna, the prospects of cooperation and industrial and agricultural integration between Syria and Jordan and the promising opportunities, as well as the Jordanian companies’ opportunities for work in the Syrian market in the fields of inter-trade, agencies, services and industry, financial sector, insurance, contracting, construction, universities and agriculture.
In a statement to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), Irfan Al-Khasawneh, Director- General of the Syrian-Jordanian Free Zone, said that the forum is an opportunity for Syrian and Jordanian businessmen and investors to meet, and to show the available investment areas in the region, services , and incentives, competitive advantages, qualified infrastructure and facilities provided to them, with the aim of increasing the volume of investment in the region by attracting investors to sign contracts.
He clarified that the zone gives the industrialists a long-term contractual period in terms of land leases, reaching up to 25 years, while the commercial contracts are granted for a long contract period reaching up to around 15 years .These are all at encouraging and competitive prices, and there are also tax exemptions from income.
For his part, the head of the Syndicate of Owners of Jordanian Clearance and Transport of Goods, Defallah Abo Aqoleh said that the forum discusses all obstacles and challenges facing the flow of goods and inter-trade between the two countries.
He affirmed that the Jordanian government provides all facilities and exemptions in order to transit these goods at the lowest costs and as fast as possible, and it provides facilities for Syrian merchants including services to Syrian businessmen to restore things to what they were before and implement Jordanian-Syrian agreements.
Member of the Jordanian Chamber of Commerce, Sabah Abu Al-Ezz, said: “The goals of our participation in the forum are to strengthen joint relations and improve the economic situation between Jordan and Syria for the common interest of the two brotherly peoples in light of the current circumstances in the region and the world.”
Yesterday, the three-day forum kicked off under the slogan “”Participation rather than Competition” to highlight prospects of cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, transport, industry and agriculture.
