Syrian-Iraqi talks in the fields of water resources and irrigation

On March 14th, Minister of Water Resources Dr. Tamam Raad and his accompanying delegation met with the Iraqi Minister of Water Resources, Engineer Mahdi Rashid Al-Hamdani in Baghdad. 

The two sides discussed means of cooperation in the field of water resources and irrigation. 

“ The two sides discussed developing means of joint cooperation in the water resources sector, enhancing coordination in the field of studies and planning, and holding workshops to develop the capabilities of both countries,” the Iraqi Ministry of Water Resources said in a statement.

The statement added: “ Minister Al-Hamdani emphasized  the need to intensify meetings periodically and exchange data and information regarding the situation of the Euphrates River.” 

The statement indicated that Minister Al-Hamdani welcomed the active participation of the Syrian delegation in the 1st Baghdad International Water Conference. 

In turn, Minister Raad expressed Syria’s full readiness to develop means of cooperation in the field of irrigation in a way that serves the interest of both countries.

Assistant Minister of Water Resources Engineer Osama Al-Akhras affirmed that the participation of the Syrian delegation in this Conference is  to exchange ideas and opinions on the issue of rational and optimal use of water resources.
