TEHRAN, (ST)- Spokesman of the Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Mousavi said during his weekly briefing on Monday that the Syrian-Iranian relations are strong and strategic, reiterating that the Syrian people have the exclusive right to decide the future of their country.
Iran will continue to provide assistance to the Syrian government as long as Damascus asks for it and it is ready to back all steps that aim at solving the crisis in Syria, said Mousavi, noting that Iran is among the three guarantor states of the Astana process on finding political solution to the crisis in Syria.
In another context, Mousavi condemned the US threats against Iranian tankers carrying fuel for Venezuela, describing the threats as shameless and illegal.
He said that trade and dealing with Venezuela and other counties is a legal issue and that the provocative US threats against the Iranian tankers are a form of piracy and a big threat to international peace and security.
Mousavi pointed out that Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has issued a stern warning against the US provocative acts and highlighted the responsibility of the US administration with regard to the consequences of any illegal move, reiterating Iran’s right to adopt appropriate and necessary measures in the face of such threats.
