Syrian-Iranian relations are deeply-rooted, prosperous: PA Speaker

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Speaker of the People’s Assembly (PA) Hammouda Sabbagh has described the Syrian-Iranian relations as deeply-rooted, prosperous and constantly developing.

He made the remarks during his meeting on Thursday with Iran’s Education Minister Mohsen Haji Mirzaei and the accompanying delegation.

Relations between Syria and Iran have reached an advanced stage because of the joint sacrifices in the fight against terrorism and its creators and supporters and against attempts to undermine the safety, stability and security of the two countries, said Sabbagh.

 He expressed hope that the two sides will find various formulas of joint work to serve the interests of the peoples in both countries.

Mirzaei, on his part, stressed that meetings and mutual visits between Iran and Syria express the deep relations between the two countries which represent a model to follow. He said that his visit to Syria comes in accordance with Iran’s strategic approach on supporting its friends, especially Syria.

Higher education cooperation

Earlier on Thursday, Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Bassam Ibrahim and the Iranian Education Minister Mohsen Haji Mirzaei held talks on cooperation in exchanging scholarships, holding training and qualification programs and scientific conferences and establishing scientific research and technical incubators.

Dr. Ibrahim hailed the strong cooperation between Syria and Iran, noting the great scientific development in Iran, particularly in the medical field as well as in the areas of Nano technology, stem cells and aerospace sciences. 

Memo on rehabilitating Syrian schools, enhance education process signed

The Syrian and Iranian ministers of education signed a memorandum of Understanding on exchanging expertise in education and scientific fields and on renovating the damaged Syrian schools in order to enhance the education process in Syria.

The memo will be put into effect as of next week, Syria’s Education Minister Imad al-Azeb said, pointing out that a technical team from the ministry will visit Iran to draw up the executive steps of the memo.

On his part, Iran’s Education Minister stressed the importance of consolidating cooperation in education, noting the importance of including the Persian language in the curricula in Syria in order to deepen and consolidate aspects of joint cooperation.
