The two ambassadors, Imad Mustafa, director of the Diplomatic Institute at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, and Shafik Dayyoub, Syria’s ambassador in Tehran, discussed with a number of senior Iranian Foreign Ministry officials ways to enhance aspects of cooperation between the two sides, and the mechanism for following up on the bilateral files which were discussed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Faisal Al-Miqdad, with his Iranian counterpart Hussein Amir Abd Lahian during Al-Miqdad’s visit last week to the Iranian capital, Tehran.
Ambassadors Mustafa and Dayyoub held a meeting with the Iranian Foreign Minister’s Senior Assistant for Special Political Affairs Ali Asghar Khaji, during which they discussed bilateral relations and the latest developments on the Syrian, regional and international arenas. The Syrian officials also discussed with the Iranian Assistant Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomatic Affairs Mahdi Safari aspects of economic cooperation and upgrading them to the level of strategic relations between the two countries.
The ambassadors, Mustafa and Dayyoub, had held several meetings with the advisor to the Iranian Foreign Minister and head of the Andish Farzan Research Center, Dr. Manouchehr Mohammadi, Dr. Muhammad Hassan Sheikh Al Islami, director of the Center for Political and International Studies in the Iranian Foreign Ministry, and Dr. Muhammad Taqi Hosseini, Vice President of the Center for Political and International Studies for Scientific Affairs, where issues were discussed concentrating on common interests, bilateral cooperation in the diplomatic and political fields, joint research, and exchanging experiences and modern methods related to training diplomatic cadres.
Ambassador Mustafa also gave a lecture at the Center for Political and International Studies in the Iranian Foreign Ministry in which he talked about the situation in Syria and the conspiracy Syria has been subjected to over the past years. This was followed by a visit he made with Ambassador Dayyoub to the Iranian Documentation Center, which contains the archives of the Iranian Foreign Ministry for more than two hundred years in addition to thousands of valuable historical documents.
