Syrian-Iranian Joint Trade Committee holds talks on investment and trade cooperation

The Syrian-Iranian Joint Trade Committee held a meeting in Damascus on Tuesday.

The meeting which was co-chaired by Syria’s Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Mohammad Samer Al-Khalil and the Iranian Minister of Industry Mines and Trade Sayyed Riza Fatemi Amin, dealt with several issues that further enhance trade cooperation between Syria and Iran, including in exchanging goods.

The two sides affirmed the importance of the Iranian products exhibition, which kicked off yesterday at Damascus Fairgrounds, pointing out that this event is a turning point in trade and investment relations between the two countries.

Al-Khalil emphasized the importance of activating inter-trade and investment between Syria and Iran by reviewing the customs duties currently in force, reducing the number of materials included in the negative list of the previously signed free trade agreement and reducing the value-added in determining the origin of products from 50 to 40 percent.

 On his part, The Iranian minister hailed the cultural and social relations between Syria and Iran, noting the plenty of joint works that can reactivate bilateral trade.

The two sides agreed on forming a work group in each country to reactivate and follow up on trade issues.

70 Iranian figures representing public and private sectors, the Shoura Council, the industrial committee and the Iranian Chamber of Commerce, industry, agriculture and mines, took part in the meeting.
