Syrian-Indonesian talks to boost trade relations between the two countries

Acting Chargé d’Affairs at the Syrian Embassy in Indonesia, Abdel Moneim Annan, discussed with the delegation of the Indonesia Chamber of Commerce ways to enhance trade relations between the two countries.

During the meeting, which was held at the embassy in Jakarta, in the presence of the Chairman of the Bilateral Trade Relations Committee with Syria and Iraq in the Chamber of Commerce of Indonesia, Ridwan Hamid, ways to enhance trade and economic relations between Syria and Indonesia in the fields of energy, investment, medical and pharmaceutical ingredients, and food products such as rice, cooking oil and coffee were reviewed.

The two parties agreed to hold a virtual meeting soon via the Internet, bringing together businessmen from both sides, in which focus will be placed on the priorities set by the Syrian side in terms of import and export.

The meeting underlined the importance of Investment Law No. 18 , especially as it opens the way for broad incentives for Indonesian companies to invest in the reconstruction of infrastructure in Syria. The meeting also underscored the opportunity for cooperation in many areas, provided that these areas will be discussed in more detail during the participation of the Syrian side in the Indonesia Expo 2022 next November.

The Syrian Chargé d’Affairs indicated that the Western media is still working to distort the image of reality in Syria and claim that it is not safe, in contrast to the state of stability and security that it is currently enjoying. He noted that many friendly and major countries such as China are studying the expansion of their investments and projects in Syria.

Annan said that a country such as Indonesia, as a member of the G 20  with its large economy, should take advantage of the available opportunities and increase the volume of trade exchange between the two countries in a way that rises to the level of the available capabilities and opportunities and the actual needs of both sides.

The meeting was attended by the official of the economic file attached to the Syrian side, Muhammad Nahed Muhairi, and from the Indonesian side, members of the Bilateral Trade Relations Committee with Syria and Iraq.
