Syrian- Indian Economic Relations Discussed

DAMASCUS, (ST) –  Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Dr. Hammam al -Jazaeri discussed here with Ambassador of the Republic of India, Man Mohan Banot, ways to strengthen economic, trade, investment and development of relations between the two friendly countries.

During the meeting, which took place at the ministry building, Dr. al -Jazaeri confirmed the importance of establishing a framework for future cooperation between Syria and India that including preparation for meetings of the third session of the Syrian- Indian Joint Committee, the development of joint development programs to support and help small and medium enterprises in Syria to achieve its objectives to benefit from India’s expertise in this area as well as the development of joint development programs that contribute to enhancing the affected people by the current crisis, the economic integration in the countryside and the promotion of self-capacity for income generating and employment creation.

The two sides also discussed ways of strengthening investment cooperation with the Indian private sector, benefit from the advantages provided by the participatory law with the private sector, which was issued recently to the implementation of joint investment projects with the Syrian government and to agree on a new legal framework to strengthen and expand trade between the two countries.

For his part, the Indian ambassador noted his government’s keenness to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in various fields and stressed the need to activate cooperation at the level of the activities of the business sector in both countries in order to achieve the common interest.

The two sides also agreed to continue communication to implement what has been agreed upon to be translated through joint memorandums of understanding covering all the aspects that have been discussed.
