Syrian Government Needs to Test Credibility of De Mistura: Foreign Ministry

DAMASCUS, (ST)-The Syrian government doesn’t allow the UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan De Mistura or anyone else to talk about testing Syria’s seriousness about any issue whatsoever, a source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said yesterday, clarifying that the Syrian government has become in need to test the credibility of the UN envoy whose remarks in the media, from the beginning of his mission, contradicted what happened in his meetings with the Syrian government.

Within this context, the Syrian Arab Republic stresses that delivering humanitarian aid to areas besieged by terrorists has been for years the Syrian government’s commitment towards the citizens and it has nothing to do with the meetings held in Geneva, Munich and Vienna or with any party, the source said.

“Any access or delivery of humanitarian assistance to the terrorist-besieged areas in the past or in future comes within the framework of the Syrian national response plan and we aren’t waiting anybody to remind us of our duties towards our people,” the source added.

According to the source, De Mistura’s remarks about testing the seriousness of the Syrian state has nothing to do with objectivity and it can only be considered as an attempt to please certain parties.
