Syrian Government-backed delegation in Geneva to take part in the constitutional committee’s meetings

GENEVA, (ST)- The Syrian government-backed delegation arrived in Geneva on Monday to take part in the meetings of the constitutional committee on Syria which are scheduled to kick off on Wednesday, October 30th, 2019 with the participation of 150 members representing the Syrian government, opposition and civil society.

The committee will hold discussions on Friday and then there will be a small committee of 45 members representing the three sides.

 

Earlier on Monday, Geir Pederson, the UN Chief’s Special Envoy for Syria,  said that the work of the committee for discussing the Syrian constitution should be based on basic principles that include respecting Syria’s sovereignty, national unity and territorial integrity pursuant to the UN Charter and the Security Council Resolutions.
