Abu Dhabi, ST) – The Syrian national fustal team has qualified for the quarter-finals of the second Zayed Championship, which is currently being held in Al Ain, UAE. Fourteen Arab countries are participating in the championship.
The Syrian team reached the quarter-finals by coming in the second place at the end of the first round, within its group that included the teams of Algeria, Egypt, Palestine and Jordan.
The Syrian team won the first round against Algeria 1-3 and Egypt 2-3, while it tied with Jordan 1-1 and with Palestine 3-3.
The tournament is held in a one-round league system, where the participating teams are divided into three groups and the first and second in each group advance to the quarter-finals, along with the two best third-place teams.
The UAE, Jordan, Bahrain, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Sultanate of Oman, Somalia, Iraq, Palestine, Lebanon, Libya, Egypt and Morocco, in addition to Syria are taking part in the tournament.
