Syrian filmmaker Almouhannad Kalthoum selected as member of the jury in 17th Kazan International Muslim Film Festival
The Syrian director Almouhannad Kalthoum has been selected as member of the jury of the official competition of the 17th Kazan International Muslim Film Festival, which is scheduled to be held in Kazan, the capital city of the Russian Republic of Tatarstan between September 5th and 10th.
The event is one of the biggest film festivals that are held annually in Russia since 2005. It aims at exchanging cultural, artistic and cinematic experiences among participants under the slogan (The Dialogue of Cultures and the Culture of Dialogue). It also aims at introducing the creative achievements of the filmmakers that enhance general human, cultural and moral values and present an objective idea about Islam and Moslems.
Prominent directors and actors from all over the world are taking part in this important cultural event.
Almohannad Kalthoum was member of the jury in several local, Arab and international film festivals in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Ukraine, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Russia and Italy.
Kalthoum, who has directed 15 feature and documentary short and long films, holds a BA in Television and Film Directing from the Kharkiv State Academy of Culture in Ukraine. He also holds a Master’s degree in Television and Film Directing from the same academy.
The organizing committee of the 17th Kazan International Muslim Film Festival accepted 584 applications from 45 countries of the world. The selection committee selected 50 films in the nominations “fiction full-length film”, “documentary full-length film”, “fiction short film”, “documentary short film” and “national competition”. There was one Tatarstan film in each of the nominations.
The festival will feature films from Russia, France, Spain, China, Belgium, Japan, Qatar, Bulgaria, Algeria, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and other countries.
