Syrian film “The Spark” Film documents the early days of the Syrian Revolution in Daraa al-Balad

The documentary film “The Spark,” directed by Mohammad Al-Mesallama, was screened yesterday at the Cultural Center Theater in Daraa province .

The film documents the beginnings of the Syrian revolution in Daraa al-Balad on March the 18th, 2011, through live testimonies of activists and participants in the popular movement.

The screening coincided with the anniversary of the massacres in Saida and Al-Yadudah during “Friday of Wrath,” which aimed to break the siege on the city of Daraa.

The film includes archival footage shot with simple cameras and mobile phones from the earliest moments of the protests, adding an authentic documentary feel.
The film is one of the first documentaries to gather testimonies from those who lived through and accompanied the early stages of the revolution, some of whom were martyred, while others continue their work.
The video materials were smuggled and documented on hard drives, stored in grease-coated wooden boxes buried underground or transported across borders to preserve the memory of the revolution and pass it on to future generations.

The film features testimonies from survivors, detainees, and figures who continued their documentation and media work outside the country.
