Syrian film “Photograph” wins the Jury Prize at the 6th Cinema Against Terrorism Festival in Iraq’s Erbil
The Syrian short fiction film “Photograph”, directed by Almohannad Kalthoum, has won the Jury Prize of the 6th Cinema Against Terrorism Film Festival held between February 1st and 3rd in the Iraqi city of Erbil.
The three-day festival included the screening of 42 fiction and documentary films from Syria, Iraq and Iran. They films competed in the categories of the best short and documentary film, best animation film, best screenplay, best director and best performance as well as the two Jury and Festival Prizes.
“Photograph”, produced by the National Film Organization, depicts the repercussions of the war in Syria on Syrian children. It tackles child labor and the difficult economic circumstances that force children to leave schools and look for a job to support their families. The film also highlights the situation of children in the post-war stage as well as man’s struggle to survive.
It stars Suleiman al-Ahmad, Ghaleb Shandoubeh, Jamal al-Ali, Safouh Mimas and Itab Abu Sa’da. The script of the film was written by scenarist Bouthaina Na’eeseh.
President of the Cinema Against Terrorism Festival Beshtwan Abdullah stressed that “the festival’s message is to reject extremism and terrorist ideology and to spread peace and coexistence among members of society.”
