Syrian expatriates in Belgium and Luxembourg send a letter to Pope

BRUSSELS, (ST)_ Syrian expatriates in Belgium and Luxembourg have appealed to Pope Francis to put an end to the unjust siege from which the Syrian people are suffering.

They underlined in a letter that they sent on Tuesday to the Pope that the western coercive measures being imposed on Syria contradict the United Nations International Covenants on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) and on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights as these measures target the Syrian people’s living hood.

The expatriates pointed out that Syria also faces the occupation of its territories by the US and Turkish forces that plunder national wealth.

They referred to the fact that the western coercive measures have increased the suffering of the people of Syria amid the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic.
