DAMASCUS, (ST) – Sariya al -Marzouq , young agronomist, derived her strength from the power of the mighty Euphrates River and burned by its bright sun that increased her persistence and determination to learn more and get knowledge. She chose the difficult to study and discovered a lot about the world of horses and equestrian. Her specialization stemmed from her love for pure Arabian horses .. Those horses were attributed to the Arabs due to their excessive care and their maintenance to their offspring and their distinctive characteristics.
Eng. Al -Marzouq tells about her scientific experience saying “I graduated from the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Aleppo and got a diploma from the University of Damascus and then got a scholarship to study Masters in Berlin from 2007-2010 entitled ” Management of Integrated Natural Resource,”. A study of three important components of political economy, genetic engineering and environmental science.
About the Masters, al -Marzouq said: ” The graduation thesis entitled ” A study of genetic engineering of pure Arab horses” and all the samples of the thesis were taken from the Syrian horses farm known for their purity of blood which is registered internationally by the World Arabian Horse Organization “WAHO”. Syrian Arab horses are characterized as the purest in the world, therefore the thesis was the focus of attention of the genetic department at the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering.
Al – Marzouq currently pursues doctoral thesis entitled “Distinguished hackamores in breed of Arab horses in Syria,” where the Arab horse breed maintained on purity, hackamores are the horses’ group that belongs to a single mother.
Eng. Al – Marzouq clarified that she took 90 samples to complete their study, expressing disappointment at the theft of more than 180 horses in the farms of Damascus. She confirmed that all these horses follow the organization of WAHO. They are a national wealth to Syria they belong to rare strains that does not exist in the world.
“After my return from Germany to Syria, I work as editor-in chief of a magazine “Children of the Wind”. The magazine deals with matters of horses, equestrian and is published in both Arabic and English. It provides information about the history of horses, strains, feed and equipment of horses, as well as tournaments that are held, awards, exhibitions, events and things related to horses”, Eng.Al – Marzouq added.
” I participated in numerous seminars and environmental workshops with the Arab Center for the Study of Arid Areas and Dry Zones “ACSAD” and the German House for the implementation of development projects in the field of water projects in Syria. She also worked to encourage the Syrian woman on local labor and resettlement of local expertise”, Eng. Al Marzouq clarified.
Eng. Al Marzouq established a team called “The Green Friends” in 2011 aimed at providing the foundations of home gardening, spreading of agricultural culture, teaching children how to take care of gardens, as well as to take care of pets, environmental awareness and water rationalization.
