“Syrian Drama Is the Industry Of Thought And Social Responsibility” Workshop Kicks Off In Damascus

Damascus, (ST) – A workshop entitled “Syrian drama is an industry of thought and social responsibility” kicked off this morning at the Umayyad Hall in the  “Al-Cham” Hotel in Damascus.

Writers, directors, producers, stars, technicians and media professionals participate in the workshop, which aims  to highlight the importance of Syrian drama and contributing in developing its industry and discussing the obstacles facing artistic production.

At the beginning of his speech, Minister of Information, Dr. Boutros Hallaq saluted the heroes of the Syrian Arab Army and its leader on the occasion of the anniversary of the foundation of the Syrian Army. He indicated that today’s workshop is the result of the cooperation of the Ministry of Information and the Film and Television Industry Committee.

Dr. Hallaq thanked all those in charge of this workshop for their efforts in preparing their researching papers that will have the greatest impact in reaching the best results and recommendations.

The minister spoke about the role of drama in confronting the Terror war of thought, which is one of the most dangerous wars that Syria has been exposed to and targets its political, cultural and societal structure. He pointed to the great impact that drama plays on the individual and society, as people consider it a reality and the younger generations view it as reality. “This matter holds us the responsibility to be guards and defenders against the falsification of thought and culture”, Dr. Hallaq added.

The minister indicated that, talking about the drama industry should be based on realistic ideas based on its ability to influence through image, sound and actions capable of planting purposeful ideas and consolidating the values ​​that our societies carry from a rich heritage of customs, traditions and lessons.

Minister Hallaq wished the workshop success, considering that it is a first step that must be followed by workshop meetings to reach a mechanism for dramatic work to become an industry and to set a strategy through which we define what we want from drama.

For his part, the Chairman of the Film and Television Industry Committee, Ali Onais, said that the workshop is a continuation of what pioneers in the field of cinema and television have made to discuss the feasibility of what is possible and available to the profession’s critics, thinkers, writers and artists.

The workshop follows its first session, entitled “The Drama Industry between Stumbling and Advancing”, managed by Oniz.

The second session, entitled “Obstacles Facing National Drama”, managed by a member of the Film and Television Industry Committee, writer Diana Jabbour.

The workshop was opened by showing a short film on the occasion of the Syrian Arab Army Day and another summarizing the history and story of Syrian drama.
