Syrian Delegation to WIP Forum Calls for Halting Support for Terrorists, Lift Sanctions Imposed on Syria

BRUSSELS, (ST) – “Parliaments should use the their diplomacy to pressure the countries involved in financing and arming the international terrorism Syria is being exposed to so as to stop their support to the terrorist takfiri groups,” stressed the Syrian Women Parliamentary delegation participating in the Women In Parliament Global Forum which was held yesterday by the European Union at its headquarters in Brussels.

Meeting European MPs and officials participating in the forum, the Syrian delegation explained the crimes perpetrated by the armed terrorist groups against the Syrian State’s infrastructure as well as service, medical and education institutions in addition to their crimes of killing, rape and use of chemical weapon with a great support by some Arab, regional and Western countries.

During their meeting with Deputy Chief of the European Commission for Foreign and Political Affairs Helga Schmed, members of the delegation reiterated that the “opposition abroad” doesn’t represent the Syrian people, it is rather a political tool to implement schemes of Western powers and some Gulf regimes.”

They stressed that only the Syrian people have the right to “determine their future and chose their leadership through ballot boxes in a democratic process.”

For her part, the European official expressed her readiness to help the Syrian people get out of the crisis and end their suffering.

In another meeting with Deputy Speaker of the European Parliament Jody Williams, the Syrian delegation clarified the reality of the ongoing events taking place in Syria and the human rights violations committed by the terrorists particularly against women. The urged immediate lifting of the unjust sanctions imposed on Syria due to these sanctions’ repercussions on the humanitarian situation in the country.

Meeting Arab parliamentary delegations from Egypt, Algeria, Sudan and Somalia, the Syrian women parliamentarians affirmed the role of parliaments in using their diplomacy to pressure to stop terrorist acts in Syria and support political solution to the crisis in Syria based on national dialogue.
