Syrian Delegation at Global Conference of Young MPs: Syria Has Kept Education Free and Hosted 30 Thousand Students Despite War

BAKU-Participants in the fifth Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians discussed on Saturday means of safeguarding the future interests of the youth and means of enhancing their role in making policies and preserving environment, SANA reported.

Delivering a speech at the Conference being held in Azerbaijan’s capital city of Baku, head of the Syrian delegation MP Omar al-Aroub said Syria has kept education free despite the terrorist war waged against it, and hosted up to 30 thousand students from neighboring and friendly countries according to SANA.

He indicated that the Syrian youth have lost several components of advanced sciences due to the vandalism acts against educational institutions and the economic embargo imposed on Syria.

The MP called on the parliamentarians to work at all levels in their countries and at international conferences to lift the unilateral coercive economic measures against the Syrian people given their detrimental consequences on all sectors, particularly with regards to ensuring the requirements for educating future generations.

For his part, MP Muhannad Zaid said Syria is working on rebuilding schools destroyed by terrorists, given its conviction that education is the guarantor of social prosperity.

In the same context, the delegation members visited the Martyrs’ Lane in Baku and the National Assembly of Azerbaijan.

The conference’s activities kicked off on Friday under the title of “Promoting Sustainability to Protect the Interests of Future Generations” with the participation of 48 countries, including Syria.
