(ST) – Folk dance in Syria is affected by many factors, the most important is the general nature of the environment, the nature of work and social habits, but there are dances that maintained their stamps. A famous dance that distinguishes Syria is “al -Dabkeh” dance, which consists of a set of steps and graceful movements, seriated in organized feet beat with the participation of the body.
This harmony in dance reflects the vitality of the young and femininity of girls in a magnificent spontaneity and accompanied blows of feet in coordinated lines and go with the beats of rhythm by the drum, tambourine, or tones of the flute, the pipe, or any musical instrument used by the people of the countryside.
Songs inherited from grandparents usually accompany tones of the flute. The fame for the Dabkeh in the Syrian heritage backs to vitality, activity, and fun that accompanied in the performance and rhythm.
The dance varies in nature from one area to another and the most famous dances are: (Alhoraniyya Dabkeh), (al-Deiriyya), (al-Sheikhani), (al-Salmoniyya), (al-Hamwiyya), (al-Jabaliyya), (al-Shamiyya), (al-Qalamoniyya), (al-Sahiliyya). The names of these dances were derived from the names of cities and regions from which they originated.
