Syrian-Czech Businessmen Held Talks

Damascus, (ST) – Session of talks held here yesterday between the Damascus Chamber of Commerce and a number of businessmen with the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Czech Republic Martin Tlaba and his accompanying delegation. Talks focused on ways to work on lifting the economic sanctions and enhancing the role of businessmen in activating economic and trade relations between the two countries.

President of the Syrian Federation of Chambers of Commerce Mohammad Ghassanal Qalla’underlined durability of economic and trade relations between the two countries and the necessity of developing them, pointing out the importance of the Czech Republicas a member in the European Union to mitigate as much as possible of the European Economic sanctions imposed on Syria and its people and provide facilities in the field of visas to the EU and to facilitate financial repayments in European banks.

A number of businessmen noted to the importance of the work of the Czech Republic to mitigate the negative effects of economic sanctions and promote economic and scientific cooperation between the two countries and the economic empowerment of the Syrian people in order to stop migration.

For his part, Mr.Tlaba clarified that his country is seeking, through its allies in the European Union to devote its point of view to relieve the European Economic sanctions, suggesting the formation of a delegation of Syrian businessmen to visit his country and discuss with their counterparts the Czech on the priorities of economic cooperation at the current stage and the stage of reconstruction.

He explained that his country’s aid program to the Syrian people extends to three years and includes humanitarian aid including medical and relief assistance to the displaced as well as development and economic sides in this program.
