Damascus, (ST): The Syrian Culture Days’ celebration started at Al-Assad House for Culture and Arts in Damascus under the title “My Culture is My Identity.” It includes more than 90 diverse activities in the fields of arts, drama and heritage. The event will last until Thursday 26th of November in different Syrian governorates.
In parallel with the celebration, an art exhibition that displays 23 pictures and 8 sculpture works for artists in the 80th and 90th of the last century was opened.
The Minister of Culture, Lubana Msheweh, stressed that the celebration of the 62nd anniversary of the establishment of the Ministry is a festivity for a renewed genuine culture which was targeted by a fierce war that sought to defame it, noting that Syrian culture is rich with its diversity.
She noted that the Ministry of Culture has been sponsoring every creative work that enhances national belonging and creates a healthy social and intellectual atmosphere away from fanaticism and unilateralism.
In a press statement, the Minister of Information Imad Sarah said that the importance of this event lies in the fact that it has been held ten years after the terrorism that has been practiced against Syria in which all kinds of mass media were employed to demonize everything in Syria. He affirmed that this event came to confront the terrorist Wahhabi thought which they tried to impose on Syria, and to tell them that Syria would always remain the land of civilization and the cradle of culture.

On the sidelines of the event, six Syrian personalities were honored in appreciation of the creative works they introduced in service of their homeland. The honored personalities were Dr. Mohammad Khalaf al-Jarad, plastic artist Aktham Abdel Hamid, actress Thana’a Dibsi, poet George Ashi, music composer Hussain Nazek and the soprano Sumaia Hallak.
The celebration also included the showing of a documentary that records important phases in the work of the ministry over the last 60 years and its achievements in various domains. “Music Inspired by the Spirit of the East” was a concert presented at the opening ceremony.
Julnar Troupe for Dancing Theatre also presented dances inspired from the Syrian heritage.
