The “ Hour of Code “ is a nationwide initiative by Computer Science Society to introduce children to computer science and programming. The event attracts over 100 million participants across 180 countries .
Thirty children and adolescents have participated in the “Hour of Code” event, which was organized by the Lattakia branch of the Syrian Computer Society ( SCS) in parallel with the Computer Science Education Week .
Eng. Mariam Fayyoud Head of the SCS branch in Lattakia said in a statement to Syriatimes e-newspaper that the main objective of the event is to present basics of programming to children and adolescents and enable them to remove ambiguities about these sciences and providing them with suitable knowledge about these technologies that govern the future.
The global event came within the framework of the SCS’s activities which aim at spreading and enabling children to use information technology science.
Eng. Fayyoud , who is also the supervisor of the event, expressed her pride in the SCS’s children and adolescents who have achieved a distinguished global presence and remarkable achievements, the last of which was the first place in the global “Ada Lovelace Hackathon” competition. She indicated this event will contribute to preparing a new distinguished group of children and adolescents and providing them with scientific basics which will enable them to take part in local and abroad activities.
In turn, Sumer Kisin, the event coordinator, indicated to Syriatimes that the SCS’s children shared this unique experience with more than 100 million children around the world, as a team of trainers will receive children and adolescents at the SCS headquarters over a period of 7 days to learn the most important skills and basic knowledge in the computer world.
Trainer Ali Hamdan told Syriatimes that he shared with the children his personal experience in the world of programming and the knowledge he has acquired over the past years in order to increase their awareness about the importance of IT which has become an integral part of our daily and practical life.
Children Tim Nader Kher beek , Ibrahim and Abdul Latif Hassan indicated that in this activity they explored the computer world and got acquainted with the concept of programming and its uses in a wonderful interactive and competitive atmosphere.
