Syrian Clans in Hassaka Reject So-called “Federation in Northern Syria”

DAMASCUS, (ST)- The Council of Syrian Clans’ dignitaries in Hassaka province has rejected the declaration of a so-called “federation in northern Syria”, stressing that such move, which targets Syria’s sovereignty, is destined to failure.

In a statement at the conclusion of a conference held on Saturday in Qamishli with the participation of representatives of all components of Hassaka province, the Council said “announcing a so-called federation in northern Syria after Rmeilan meeting is an unprecedented violation of the constitution of the Syrian Arab Republic as it threatens Syria’s geographic and historical character by seeking drawing up new maps with new terms.”

“The announcement comes in response to excluding the Kurds from Geneva dialogue and to the insistence of the government of the Syrian Arab Republic on the unity of the Syrian lands and people,” the council said, clarifying that “the Kurds are one of the components of the Syrian society that can’t be excluded in any process aiming to draw up Syria’s future,”

“No one has the right to ignore the social necklace or give up the state’s shape and system unilaterally through uncalculated actions that blatantly threaten the unity of Syria’s geography and people,” the council reiterated.

It went on to say that “declaring a federation in northern Syria contradicts the will of millions of Syrians who rally behind the Syrian Arab army in its battle to eliminate terrorism and lead Syria to safety and stability shore.”

“Syria’s future and the shape and ruling system of the state are not subject to moods and narrow calculations. It is an exclusive right of the Syrian people specified by the constitution and protected by the people’s will and international laws,” according to the council.

During the conference, dignitaries and notables of the Syrian clans rejected any schemes that harm the unity of the Syrian Arab republic and stressed that efforts should be focused on supporting the Syrian army’s battle against terrorism.
