Syrian Children TV program allocates episode on Al-Quds and Palestinian Keffiyeh

The idea of “Draw with Us” TV program, which is broadcast by Syrian TV channel every Thursday at 03:00pm [According to Syria Time], is based on children visiting a number of famous archaeological  sites in Syria and drawing and coloring them directly.

This is what Omar Al-Madani, who presents the program, said in an interview with Syria Times e-newspaper on Thursday.

He indicated that each one-hour-long episode includes a documentary prepared by the Children Directorate at the General Commission of Radio and TV on each site to provide the children who participate in the program with information about the history of the site and in order to store a memory in the child’s brain about these sites.

“The number of children who are participating in the program ranges from 7 to 15 , and we seek to increase the number of participants in each episode by inviting guests,” he added.

Al-Madani went on to say: “While the children are drawing the site, I give them an idea about  the tools they will use for drawing and how to draw the archaeological site in an easy way.

“We allocated an episode about Al-Quds [Jerusalem] and Al-Aqsa Mosque where the participating children  drew the Dome of the Rock and they were provide with information about its history. We also broadcast an episode about the keffiyeh, which dates back to1936-1939 and the meaning of the symbols on it, such as the fishing net and ears of wheat,” he said.

The participating children visited the Umayyad Mosque, Al-Hamidiyah Market, Umayyad Square,  the “Al-Assad” Library, Tishreen Park, Damascus Citadel and they drew them.

They in addition drew the Damascene Sword, the National Museum, and the ancient jar inside the museum and other things, according to Al-Madani, who asserted that the program broadcast 16 episodes so far and it will go ahead in attracting more children to take part in it.

He concluded by saying that all talented children aged between 5 and 17, who have practical skills in drawing, have the right to take part in the program.
