Syrian Caricaturist Nedal Deep: We Should Keep Hand in Hand to Face Terrorism Targeting Our Homeland
More than any other kind of visual arts, caricature can depict people’s troubles and tackle serious political, social, humanitarian and economic issues with a sense of humor that attracts viewers and makes topics easy to understand, stressed Nedal Deep, a Syrian talented caricaturist.
According to Deep, caricature has a sublime humanitarian message directly connected with people’s suffering. The caricaturist should serve people’s causes and contribute to combating corruption and exploitation.
In a recent interview with the local “Tishreen” newspaper, Deep said that by clarifying facts in an ironic way, caricature affects the public opinion and helps solving some problems or easing people’s suffering. It can also make the people, who suffer, laugh.

Caricaturists should be smart enough to express their ideas and embody the suffering of people. They should enjoy some sense of humor, courage and farsightedness, said the artist.
From the very beginning of the crisis in Syria, Deep has dedicated most of his artistic works to explain the conspiracy hatched against Syria and uncover the parties which support terrorism in his beloved country.
According to him confronting the global conspiracy and terrorist aggression launched against Syria is the national duty of every Syrian citizen, including himself.
“Syria needs every one of us, so we should keep hand in hand to face the terrorism which has been targeting our beloved homeland,” he stressed.
Many of Deep’s works were published in some American newspapers and magazines. They were able to convey the Syrian people’s rejection of this heinous war which aims at destroying the Syrian state with the help of terrorists and mercenaries who came to Syria from all over the world.

Deep is now planning to hold an exhibition in Syria and abroad to show the world the suffering caused to the Syrians because of the crisis and to document all the political and social events in the country.
Nedal Deep is a Syrian talented caricaturist. He held many solo and collective exhibitions in Syria and abroad and took part in several Arab and international festivals. He won a number of international awards and has his cartoons published in many Arab and foreign newspapers and magazines. His talent appeared at childhood age. He started his artistic career as a plastic artist, but later, he preferred to be a caricaturist, because according to him, caricature is more effective than any other kind of art in people’s life.
